Our Heritage
In 1934, William and Jesse Cartwright, having survived the Great Depression, were looking for a way to support a large family that would also give them a means to a better life. William (Bill) was able to obtain a truck, so he started advertising general hauling services, a venture that eventually migrated towards a specialization in household goods. This gave rise to what would become Cartwright Van Lines, conveniently located in Kansas City, MO, right in the middle of America’s heartland.
In the 1960s, Bill’s oldest son, Bill, Jr., led Cartwright’s expansion into the international market. In 1967, the company purchased land in Grandview, MO, a humble community just outside of Kansas City. While the Cartwright family of companies operates to this day on the same plot of land that saw the rise of the Cartwright Companies name, the building that houses them has been expanded and renovated over the years. The Cartwright Companies now comprises 14 different businesses and stands as the foundation for Cartwright Relocation Services.
Creation of Cartwright Relocation Services
Cartwright Relocation Services was created out of the desire to provide relocation services and solutions to federal agencies and corporate entities. Our years of moving military families all over the globe gave us the experience and partnerships we needed to streamline efficiencies and offer reliable, quality shipping of household goods.
Today, our relocation services company is experiencing exceptional growth, and our Cartwright team moves thousands of families around the world every year. We’d like to think it’s our core values of dependability, respect, integrity, vested employees, and empathy that have led to our success.
